Wheelchair tennis player Korie Homan second in Australian Open

02 February 2009 - Last Saturday, wheel chair tennis player Korie Homan played in the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne. Her opponent was fellow Dutch player Esther Vergeer, who is undefeated in 356 matches.

The 22 year-old Korie Homan performed excellently against the 27 year-old Esther Vergeer, who was seeded number one. Korie in fact took a 4-0 lead.

Esther Vergeer however soon picked up her service and won the next six games and the set.

In the second set, Esther Vergeer once again overcame her opponent’s lead, with a number of forehand winners, to take the final victory. The final score was 6-4, 6-2 for Esther Vergeer.

The result reflected an excellent tournament for Korie Homan. The Australian Open resulted in victory in the doubles and a second place in the singles tournament.
