Tjerk Bogtstra is a former tennis player above all known as former captain of the Dutch Davis Cup team. As an active player, Tjerk Bogtstra together with Paul Haarhuis twice won the national title in men’s doubles.

Following his active tennis career, he focused on coaching. For the first five years he coached Jan Siemerink, who under his management reached 14th place on the world ranking.

In February 2001, Tjerk Bogtstra became captain of the Davis Cup team, at the suggestion of the players themselves. During his first year as captain, the Netherlands reached the semi finals. In 2004 and 2005, his team reached the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup. In 2006, the Dutch Davis Cup team was knocked out of the world group after a lost promotion/degradation match against the Czech Republic. Tjerk Bogtstra was then replaced by Jan Siemerink as Davis Cup captain.

Tjerk Bogtstra is a highly sought-after speaker who enjoys making business presentations. He is also employed as sponsor manager at Pon.
