Nicolien Sauerbreij, snowboard, gains Olympic nomination

07 January 2009 - Snowboarder Nicolien Sauerbreij was guaranteed of an Olympic nomination for Vancouver 2010 following her performance yesterday in Kreischberg. She reached the finals of the world cup parallel giant slalom competition. The final included the top sixteen snowboarders.

Because this was the second time in one season that Sauerbreij reached the top sixteen in a world cup parallel giant slalom competition, she fulfilled the nomination requirements of the sport umbrella organisation NOCNSF.

Sauerbreij must maintain her form next season, in order to be guaranteed a starting place in Vancouver.

She eventually finished seventh in Kreischberg. She lost in the quarterfinals to Claudia Riegler from Austria.
