Athlete Ingmar Vos 7th in the world
04 April 2011 - What follows is a personal report by decathlete Ingmar Vos, looking back on the indoor season just ended:
"The indoor season is now officially over and for me it was an extremely successful season!
The lists of the IAAF have now been updated, and after my successful 5th place in the European Indoor Championships in Paris I am now this year’s 7th in the world in the heptathlon, and number 6 in Europe.
A fabulous performance that I would never have even dreamed of before the season started. It shows once again that at the start of this indoor season I made the right choices and that fact gives me even more confidence moving forwards.
The indoor performances offer excellent prospects for the summer season. However, a good indoor season alone is not enough to ensure a good summer season; the period between the two is just as important as the summer season itself. With that in mind, next Friday I will be travelling to Tenerife for two weeks’ training, in the sun. The sun is a very important factor; it allows you to train harder and you can recover faster; an ideal combination!
As in January, when I was in Monte Gordo, I will be training together with coordinator Maarten Klaver, my Belgian coach Lieve van Mechelen and her training group consisting of Marcel van der Westen, Mike van Kruchten, Eline Berings and Kristof Beyens. All in all, the ideal group for hard training while still enjoying a great deal of fun!
The objective in Tenerife will be to sharpen myself up ready for the summer season. The main focus of the training will be on speed and refining my technique in the various disciplines. My season will then start on 14 May in Lisse, during the first competition of the Dutch Track Circuit, the Ter Specke Bokaal event.“
