Jesse Huta Galung, tennis, wins challenger tournament in Caltanissetta (Italy)

24 March 2009 - Jesse Huta Galung has taken yet another important step towards his quest for the Top 100. In Caltanissetta, Italy – where the weather conditions were more arctic than mediterranean – Jesse completed a solid week with victory in the tournament. Jesse earned 75 points for the ATP ranking, rising to the 158th place.

La finale dei "tulipani" (the tulips) between the Dutch players Jesse Huta Galung and Thiemo de Bakker was played at a high standard. Jesse showed there is every reason for his current position as number one Dutch tennis player, winning 6-2, 6-3!

This is Huta Galung’s third success on the challenger tour. Last year he won in Scheveningen and in 2007 in Alphen aan den Rijn. “It’s great to win a tournament abroad. Now people can no longer say I can only win in Holland”, responded Huta Galung.

In the Davis Cup match against Argentina, two weeks ago, Jesse already showed his mettle, but that was not enough to beat the sharp Argentineans.

His goal and dream for the near future is a rank that will lead to direct inclusion in the Roland Garros tournament; Jesse will need to climb another 50 places. A tough challenge, but not impossible.

Jesse will once again be playing in Italy this week, at the tournament in Barletta. A stronger field – several top 100 players including a number of real gravel specialists – makes this a real challenge to achieve a similar result!

Then follows a training week in the Netherlands before departing for the Challenger tournaments in Athens, Rome, San Remo and, after another training week, Zagreb. Starting on 25 May, the Rolland Garros will be held in Paris, where last year Jesse succeeded in qualifying for the main tournament of the Grand Slam.
