Carola Uilenhoed wins European silver

28 May 2006 - On the closing day of the European Judo Championships in Tampere (Finland), Carola Uilenhoed won the silver medal. In the class above 78 kg, she came a close second to Anne Sophie Mondière of France.

This is a remarkable performance for the just 21 year-old Uilenhoed. It also was the best performance by any member of the Dutch team.

The official time expired without either fighter scoring a single point. Uilenhoed was awarded a waza-ari by the adjudicator, but the point was subsequently removed following a jury consultation. In extra time, Mondière was the first to score a point, allowing her to take the European title.
