Director E.B.J. de Groot, health lawyer
Elsedien de Groot has been the driving force behind Plantina since 1993. The director of The Ortho Company BV can draw every day on her experience as a health lawyer. In determining the policy for her business, she can also call upon a wealth of other experience. She has for example been associated with the University of Maastricht where she was responsible for in-service training general practitioners. She was head of the faculty office of Nyenrode Business University in Breukelen, and from 1989 onwards was deputy director of the BVG (today the Dutch Government’s Employee Insurance Agency UWV).
Healthy lifestyle with food supplements
Elsedien de Groot is convinced of the value of high-dosage food supplements. For years she herself has used the products on a regular basis. Her driving force is to help others to discover a healthy lifestyle with food supplements. The range from Plantina has grown steadily over the past few years. “The first priority is to work cautiously”, explained Elsedien de Groot. “My ambition is not to be champion of the fastest-growing product range, but the champion in quality. We have a relatively restricted range of products, because we make all decisions carefully, and every product demands considerable preparation. We must also be able to offer value for money. If adding to quality makes a product three times more expensive, the product must also be three times as good. If I am not convinced of that balance, then we do not move forward with a new product.”
The best quality
The in-house philosophy explains why regular customers for example had to wait a long time before the Plantina fish oil product Trimare was launched. “It takes a long time before the development of our products reaches fruition. Our method is not to buy goods in America, wrap them in new packaging and then calculate a price. I am constantly in search of the very best quality. The raw material must be as pure as possible and as powerful as possible. After all, the objective is to take up as much of the active ingredient as possible, with the smallest number of capsules. Once we decided to make a fish oil product, I literally trawled the whole world to identify the best raw material and supplier.”

In her mission, Elsedien de Groot is supported by an enthusiastic team of staff operating from the head office of The Ortho Company BV in Gendringen. All logistic activities are directed from the premises in Ulft-Gendringen.
