High-dosage

The food supplements from Plantina are ‘high-dosage’. This means that our products contain a higher dosage of essential vitamins and minerals than the recommended daily allowance (RDA) adopted for the foodstuffs. In the Netherlands, the Health Council determines the RDA for essential nutrients for different groups of the population. The RDA indicates how much of a vitamin or mineral should be present in the average daily diet in order to prevent deficiency diseases. Examples of such deficiency diseases are scurvy due to a lack of vitamin C and beriberi as a consequence of a vitamin B1 shortage.

Food supplements that work with dosages up to the RDAs are known as ‘low-dosage’. They can help to prevent acute symptoms of deficiency, but make only a minimal contribution to optimising your health. The dosages are too low to slow down gradual processes that can undermine your health over a period of decades.
The products from Plantina, on the other hand, are based on the thinking of Linus Pauling. In 1968, in Science, he called for ‘optimum concentrations of substances normally present in the human body’. He thereby established the foundation stones for high-dosage food supplements.

Various scientists have followed in the footsteps of Pauling, including the highly-acclaimed Prof. Dr. Bruce Ames. In 2002, in the world’s most prestigious nutritional magazine (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition), he wrote a scientific-based appeal for high-dosage food supplements. Just like Pauling, Ames suggests that such supplements can correct genetic discrepancies. Due to genetic ‘errors’ that occur commonly, enzymes can change their structure as a result of which they can no longer fulfil all their functions. Ames referred to numerous studies that demonstrate that higher dosages of vitamins can compensate for such errors. Most people are therefore able to promote their health and vitality by taking high-dosage food supplements.

High-dosage supplements also have the advantage that they enable the body to recover more rapidly following exertion. A body which is perfectly supplied with the nutrients it needs is better resistant to stress, physical discomforts and exceptional conditions for example a long working day or travel.
